I tend to switch my wipers to non auto during icy weather.

Turn the wipers to off then just use the heated windscreen switch to defrost the windshield before using them

Am I right in thinking the auto wipers should be left in the off position when parked in icy weather?
It occurs to me that otherwise, with iced up windscreen, the wipers may trigger when pressing start and either:
1; damaging wiper motor
2; tearing the rubber wiper blades off.
Or is the car smart enough to avoid this?
Any thoughts?
